In a tragic incident in Texas, a lightning strike killed a father and critically injured his young son.

Matthew Boggs, 34, was walking hand-in-hand with his six-year-old son, Grayson, when a sudden lightning bolt struck them, instantly killing Matthew and critically injuring Grayson, who is still in a coma.

The boy now relies on a ventilator and suffers frequent seizures, with medical professionals working tirelessly to save his life. Doctors are currently evaluating him for potential brain damage.

The tragic event occurred just after Grayson and his brother, Elijah, were dropped off by the school bus. Elijah witnessed the lightning strike from only a few feet away, initially thinking it was a joke. However, upon seeing his father’s injuries, he realized the gravity of the situation.

Matthew’s mother, Angela Boggs, emotionally recounted the devastating moment, recalling that Matthew had expressed his love for his son just before the tragedy.

Matthew’s mother-in-law, Sherry, pleaded for prayers and support on social media, sharing a photo of Grayson.

To help with funeral and medical expenses, the family has established a GoFundMe page, which has already raised over $36,000. Their primary goal is to garner the community’s support during this difficult time.

Texas ranks second in lightning-related fatalities, with 36 deaths recorded in the past 15 years, according to the CDC. The southeastern states, including Texas, experience a higher incidence of lightning strikes and face an increased risk from them.
